Yesterday I announced that I was switching to decaf and pay no attention to the Democratic Primary. Because there are no elections for a while. And then I see this on Huffington Post (OK I cheated, I couldn't quit)
Clinton Aide: Richard Endorsement Insignificant
"The time that he could have been effective has long since passed," he (Mark Penn) continued, "I don't think it is a significant endorsement in this environment."
You know how it is. Iowa was the most important primary. HRC was doing extremely well, the inevitable nominee. In IA she swore that the MI and FL primaries were meaningless. Her flacks (Ickes and MacAuliffe) had disenfranchised them. Then IA voted.
And suddenly it became an insignificant state. NH was barely significant (by two points) and NV so far the only significant caucus (narrowly). Then came a string of states that held primaries only to prove that they are not significant. NM was (after a long recount because of very close numbers) finally declared significant.
Only the large states and super-delegates are significant, came the verdict from on high. Except sometimes a significant state can have insignificant Governor (MA).
Bill Clinton went all out trying to get Bill Richardson to become significant. Even watched the super-bowl with him, looking really depressed, sitting on an ugly couch. Richardson was called by Bill, Hillary, every flack who works for them, Chelsea. Obama called to lobby too. BR reported that the Clinton strategy is like carpet bombing while Obama's approach is like precision bombing.
Let us face it. The Clintons gave him every chance to be significant. Even his state had achieved significance. Then he had to throw it all away and make himself not significant.
What is wrong with him? Doesn't see that this is a trap to make him Vice-President? A nefarious scheme by Obama to use his-now insignificant- extensive foreign policy experience and executive background in the new Democratic Dream Ticket..
OBAMA/RICHARDSON 2008
UPDATE: Heated Convsersation with Insignificant Person! MSNBC 3/21:
Bill Richardson described the conversation he had with Hillary Clinton on his decision to endorse Barack Obama as "heated" in an exclusive with NBC Nightly News today. .. Richardson described the conversation that he had with Clinton last night "tough." "It was tough to make the call, but I did. It got a little heated. It got a little tense. But it was understood, and I'm proud of my decision."
