Just When I quit...Richardson Becomes Insignificant!

Yesterday I announced that I was switching to decaf and pay no attention to the Democratic Primary. Because there are no elections for a while. And then I see this on Huffington Post (OK I cheated, I couldn't quit)

    Clinton Aide: Richard Endorsement Insignificant

"The time that he could have been effective has long since passed," he (Mark Penn) continued, "I don't think it is a significant endorsement in this environment."

You know how it is. Iowa was the most important primary. HRC was doing extremely well, the inevitable nominee. In IA she swore that the MI and FL primaries were meaningless. Her flacks (Ickes and MacAuliffe) had disenfranchised them. Then IA voted.

And suddenly it became an insignificant state. NH was barely significant (by two points) and NV so far the only significant caucus (narrowly). Then came a string of states that held primaries only to prove that they are not significant. NM was (after a long recount because of very close numbers) finally declared significant.

Only the large states and super-delegates are significant, came the verdict from on high. Except sometimes a significant state can have insignificant Governor (MA).

Bill Clinton went all out trying to get Bill Richardson to become significant. Even watched the super-bowl with him, looking really depressed, sitting on an ugly couch. Richardson was called by Bill, Hillary, every flack who works for them, Chelsea. Obama called to lobby too. BR reported that the Clinton strategy is like carpet bombing while Obama's approach is like precision bombing.

Let us face it. The Clintons gave him every chance to be significant. Even his state had achieved significance. Then he had to throw it all away and make himself not significant.

What is wrong with him? Doesn't see that this is a trap to make him Vice-President? A nefarious scheme by Obama to use his-now insignificant- extensive foreign policy experience and executive background in the new Democratic Dream Ticket..

OBAMA/RICHARDSON 2008

UPDATE: Heated Convsersation with Insignificant Person! MSNBC 3/21:
Bill Richardson described the conversation he had with Hillary Clinton on his decision to endorse Barack Obama as "heated" in an exclusive with NBC Nightly News today. .. Richardson described the conversation that he had with Clinton last night "tough." "It was tough to make the call, but I did. It got a little heated. It got a little tense. But it was understood, and I'm proud of my decision."

Excellent choice! He has to be honored for putting an end to Senator Macaca's  career.

Seriously, if Allen had not lost his Senate bid, he may well have been the Republican nominee.

It does not matter who Obama chooses as his running mate.  He will be depicted has having chosen Wright!

That prospect seems funny to me.

Re: Just When I quit...Richardson Becomes Insignif (none / 0)

I would suggest that you consider that while the Wright controversy is still 'cooking off' some overheated controversy there is another narrative emerging in the media which is in the long run just as damaging to Hillary and there is no speech she can give on the subject to ameliorate the consequences.

While most Hillary supporters have been reiterating the notion that Obama is doomed by his 'association' with Wright the media has been slowly and deliberately demolishing her credibility on her core arguments in support of her candidacy.  Consider that her foreign policy experience and domestic claims regarding SCHIP and NAFTA, for example, have been eroded by damning revelations and first person evidence directly challenging her accounts.  Here, for example, is a photo of her party running 'with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base' at Tuzla Air Force Base in March 1996.  She met the eight-year old girl in the photo on the tarmac.

Do you realise how damaging this kind of thing is when it finally sinks in to the electorate?  This plays to her two most significant, demonstrated characteristics with the electorate, her 'experience' and her perceived lack of honesty where her ambitions are at stake.

She was at five meetings promoting NAFTA at a time she claims she was resisting it, including a 'rah-rah' session where she was the inspirational speaker.  If she has one compelling weakness, and it is a legacy of the Clinton years as well, it is her honesty as perceived in the electorate and the cracks are starting to show.  Big time.  And it ain't going to get any better.

Monica Lewinsky for Sec Defense (none / 0)

Even you can't deny that being close to the President gives you valuable experience. Monica Lewinsky was for a while even closer. She answered plenty of phone calls from Bill at 3am. She should be qualified at least to be the Secretary of Defense. She won't wear a pant suit to work though. She looks so good in the blue dress.

Re: Just When I quit...Richardson Becomes Insignif (none / 0)

I like that one too, but I worry about taking Dems out of the Senate...especially from states like Virginia.  I'd rather him build up that incumbent advantage for a while.

No way. No how. No McCain.

Re: Just When I quit...Richardson Becomes Insignif (none / 0)

I don't know.  I do know that every Dem in the Senate is one vote closer to cloture, and one fewer Republican vote needed.

I know Obama wants to create a bipartisan process wherever possible.  I'd rather not have to.

Re: Just When I quit...Richardson Becomes Insignif (none / 0)

Frankly I think a super-majority would be the gift that keeps on giving.  If Obama opted for public funding maybe his fund-raising capabilities could be used to finance a credible 50-state strategy by directing contributions from his supporters to individual campaigns or the DNC?
